It’s only March and I have already learned so much this year.
Before the year even began I knew this year was going to be different. I didn’t know how or why but I just knew.
So here are a few things I’ve learned in just a matter of 3 months:
- It’s not about how you start, but how you finish.
This primarily has to do with how my semester of college is going. I haven’t had the best start but I am trying to finish off strong. Although my motivation is at an all time low, I just keep reminding myself that I am so close to the finish line. Soon I will be receiving my associates degree and I’ll be able to take a little break from school. Reminding myself of the outcome helps to give me some motivation. If you’re struggling just like I am, remind yourself why you’re doing what you’re doing. Even if you had a rough start or still going through it, finish off strong! That’s all that matters in the end.
2. New day, new beginning.
What I mean by this; I had set plans for how this year was going to play out. Unfortunately, no matter how hard I try, life doesn’t go as planned. I’ve changed my plans so many times already but I feel like it’s part of growing up. I am now learning how to take everything one day at a time. Basically how I see things is “today is a new day. New beginning. Clean slate.” Which I may add, takes a whole lot of weight off my shoulders. It’s easier said than done but it does help.
3. “In a world where you can be anything, be kind.”
I just discovered that quote this year and man, has it changed everything. It’s something I am still working on but I have made some improvement. I used to always be in a bad mood. Always seeing the bad side of things. Always thinking of myself before others. Basically just attracting all of this bad energy into my life. So, I decided to try and be more positive. Be more loving. More giving. And so far it has worked. I mean, I do have some bad days but I quickly realized how exhausting it is just going around hating everything and everyone. Funny how easy life can change when you look at it differently. Right?
4. Love and always tell people that you love them.
Often times we forget how short life is. We get so busy with school, work, and other responsibilities that we forget to stop and appreciate the people in our lives. We never really know when it’s going to be the last time we will talk to or see someone. So take the time to love your family, friends, significant other, pet, etc. Tell them how much they mean to you and how much you love them. If you’re on bad terms with somebody, fix it. Life is too short so spread some love wherever you go.
With the recent passing of my high school friend, Duncan, I realized how short and precious life truly is. Duncan was such a kind and warm soul. Always making people laugh and feel better. He will be missed dearly. I also want to take the time to send some love and light to his family and close friends.
Those are just a couple of things I have learned this year. I am sure I will be learning lots more so there will be a part 2 to this post. Stay tuned!
Also, have you guys learned anything new this year? Let me know! Advice, quotes, and stories are always welcomed.
I hope you’re all doing okay. Sending all of you lots of love and happiness the rest of this year.
As always, thanks for reading!
